His publisher, his editor, his wife and his agent --
-- they all said he was crazy.
"'No one's going to want to read a book about bridge!' They told me on more than one occasion.
Still, I really love the game."
he wrote It anyway.
I would never believe that I would appreciate a book about the game of bridge. Yes, the card game. But it's by Louis Sachar, so I picked it off the shelf and brought it home. And guess what? It's so entertaining. I almost believe I could enjoy playing the game myself.
Even though I know I don't.
I certainly enjoyed the players. Sachar writes such good characters whether they are the good guys or the bad guys. And good or bad, they are all fun; they always have an air of humor about them. Except when they don't; after all it's hard to maintain the laugh lines when a loved one dies. But I appreciate the way he handles the death in the family and the outcome.
Louis Sachar delivers again. Can't wait for whatever he releases next.
