My favorites were two from the James Asher, Vampire Hunter series by Barbara Hambly.

Set in London at the beginning of the 20th century, James Asher and his progressive wife, Lucy, find themselves thrust into the business of vampire hunting.  Love the world and the characters.  There are several more in this series and I will be adding all of them to my personal library.

in this steampunk fantasy, Raven is a reaper who has decided to retire, right after she completes one last job.  But events conspire to change her plans.  Raven is a kickass heroine, and this is another I plan to add to my permanent library.

Children with magical powers attend school to learn magic.  There's a Big Bad.  What's not to like?  I'm starting the next book real soon.

A murder mystery series set before and during the revolutionary war focuses on spying and intelligence gathering.  I will be continuing with the series.

A ghost ship and ghosts. Nazis, time traveling and a curse.

Entertaining and I'm glad I read it, but I didn't LOVE it, if you know what I mean.

This is time travel with a modern day heroine traveling to the 1850s, and joining a wagon train to cross the continent.  I should have loved it, but it had too many romance tropes for my taste.  I might give the second book a chance, though.

an excellent non-fiction on the state of foster care in The U.S.
